Langfristperspektiven Archäologischer Stätten
About
History of knowledge and research-led conservation
The large-scale excavations of the 19th and 20th centuries created archaeological sites and artefact collections of a new dimension. They are the basis of the emergence of scientific knowledge about antiquity and monuments to the history of knowledge in archaeology. Their conservation is also determined by the course of the modern history of discovery: material preservation, reconstruction and presentation, museum or in-situ conservation are dependent on changing concepts of reception and interpretation.
This volume discusses long-term perspectives of archaeological sites and collections. The topic is the history of knowledge in archaeology and its influence on material conservation, as well as consequences of the loss of historical evidence. (Text @ Hirmer Verlag)
