Ruedi Häusermann

About

Umwege zum Konzert – A diversion to the concert
Eine Werkschau – a retrospective of his work

Swiss theatre-maker, musician and composer Ruedi Häusermann has a singular position in the theatre landscape. His subtle and idiosyncratic evenings, in which he interweaves unspectacular events, rhythmises them, superimposes them in time, adjusts the focus, focuses them and lets them pass by again, in which the elements of text, sound, image and scene fit equally into an overarching, ramified score, have an unmistakable signature with which he has renewed musical theatre. Ruedi Häusermann is not a commissioned artist. He keeps a resistant distance to the momentum of the cultural business and surprises with ever new detours on which he slowly and exploratively moves forward. His musical explorations have so far taken him from his home in Lenzburg to the Volksbühne Berlin, from the Neumarkt Theatre in Zurich to the HAU, from the Basel Theatre to the Burgtheater and to the Munich and Stuttgart State Operas.
“Detours to the Concert” combines the personal and the artistic, the anecdotal and the biographical, the musical and the theatrical to create a comprehensive overview of the work and life of this restlessly creative man. This volume is flanked by a 100-hour soundtrack documenting Häusermann’s musical career. (Text © Theater der Zeit)
